Uni students encouraged to relax at Sneinton Market

June 4th 2019

Most students want a daytime break from their studies or a stress-free night out. The Sneinton Market Avenues area, part of Nottingham’s Creative Quarter, is just a short walk from the city centre. Here you will find something for every student to enjoy.

Start your day by paying a visit to ‘Blend’, for some freshly roasted coffee along with something delicious if you’re feeling peckish. Would you go for their classic sourdough toast, or mix it up a bit and try some maple and sesame granola? Either is great if you’re also wanting to take the perfect shot of your food for your Instagram! The choice is yours. No matter what you choose, you won’t be disappointed. Whether you sit in or take away, you’ll get that extra boost you need for the day.

After getting your morning caffine, why not attend one of the many creative workshops that are run by the tenants of the Sneinton Market Avenues? There is something for everyone to get stuck into to. Make your own personalised stained glass suncatcher at ‘Curious?’ or attend a workshop about designing your own board game at ‘Minor Oak’. Take advantage of the opportunities to get your creative juices flowing. Book your tickets beforehand to avoid disappointment as some workshops fill up fast! Some workshops will have a cost or may be free to attend.

After a busy morning of being creative and learning new skills, you’re probably starving (when aren’t students hungry?!) There are plenty of places to eat to choose from, like the GB Café. Whether you want an all-day brunch or the classic cheese burger and chips, it’s got everything to fill your tummy. If you’re in the mood for a good old jacket potato or a cheesy stone baked pizza then ‘Fox & Grapes’ is for you. With outdoor seating on either side, you can enjoy your food and a pint in the sunshine. You can go for some classic bar food like a Baked Camembert (which is vegetarian and gluten free) or something different like a Charcuterie Board, priced reasonably and within your budget. If you loved Blend coffee shop, you can swing by there again and bite into one of their yummy grilled cheese sandwiches.

If you’re vegan or veggie, you won’t feel left out. Drop in to ‘Luisa’s Vegan Chocolates’ to treat yourself or a loved one to something sweet. Luisa is famous for her vegan creations, you can’t tell the difference from other chocolate apart from that it tastes better. Don’t just take our word for it, try it for yourself! These delights are made from taste bud tingling ingredients, and include uniquely crafted bars and creamy ganache truffles. If you haven’t quite satisfied your sweet tooth, places like ‘Macaron Marlo’ would be great to check out. For an extra twist, why not try ‘Oozee Boozee Bakes’, which sells sweet treats infused with alcohol? Baked with love (and liquor), you can finally end the day with a happy belly.

Whether you’ve had an action-packed visit or just chilled out in the vibrant yet relaxing atmosphere of this great ‘place to be’, it’s time to head back home for an evening of Netflix (...and studying). Or you could stay out later into the evening – the ‘Fridays at Sneinton Market’ events are becoming legendary (the next one is on Friday, 7 June 2019).

Just a ten-minute (or less if you are fast!) walk from the Old Market Square and a variety of tram and bus stops close by, you are bound to have an enjoyable day. What are you waiting for - head there now and help your friends discover this Nottingham gem.
