Not going to MIPIM? Come to NIPIM. March 11th 8.30-10am.

February 15th 2020

Each year thousands of property professionals from across the world gather in the south of France for MIPIM, the most important European event in the their calendar. For them, and for any city looking to attract investment, it's as important as SXSW for the music industry or the Cannes Film Festival. We cannot all be there, but fear not. If you're not at MIPIM, come to NIPIM.

NIPIM is back for 2020. Join us at Surface Gallery on Southwell Road in the Creative Quarter on Nottingham's #Eastside.*

NIPIM 2020 is your chance to network briefly over coffee and pastries and then to get quickly up to speed with the latest news on some of Nottingham's key current developments. All in just 90 minutes.

We are pleased to have secured our first-choice of six presenters each of whom will deliver a seven-minute talk on their project or passion.

Councillor Sam Webster is the Portfolio Holder for Finance, Growth and City Centre at Nottingham City Council, he's the Vice Chair of the D2N2 Investment Board and is on the boards of both Scape Group and the Creative Quarter Company. He will update on the council's ambitions for Nottingham and explain how the city can be carbon neutral by 2028.

There is a lot of development underway in Nottingham now, but is any of it more significant or more emblematic than the £30m transformation of our iconic castle due to re-open in February 2021? Sara Blair-Manning is the CEO of the Nottingham Castle Trust. She will tell us how it's going to reclaim its position as a leading national attraction expected to host 400,000+ visitors a year.

Blueprint are involved in regeneration and the creation of new neighbourhoods across Nottingham, perhaps most notably at Trent Basin and with Fruit Market at Sneinton Market where work recently began on a project that will deliver 40 high-value group-build homes. CEO Sam Veal is in the driving seat.

No-one has surely not noticed the steelwork of the much talked about new Broadmarsh car park and bus station rising phoenix-like from the ashes of its predecessor. But wait, there's more. It will also be home to our new landmark Central Library that promises to be the best children's library in the country. Sandeep Mahal the Director of the Nottingham UNESCO City of Literature has a lot of great news to share.

Chris Lawton is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Economics at the Nottingham Business School. He's also one of the people behind Skate Nottingham which is dedicated to the development of skateboarding in Nottingham and to it being a force for good. He'll talk about how skateboarding can be a tool for inclusive placemaking, youth-led regeneration and wellbeing. Prepare to be surprised.

Under the Marketing NG banner sit Invest in Nottingham, Visit Nottingham and Nottingham Partners. Sitting in the CEO's chair, making sense of all that, and leading work to create a compelling new narrative for Nottingham that serves all our needs, is Robert Dixon who is simultaneously Head of Business Growth at Nottingham City Council; so he knows what is needed and he knows how to #getitdone.

IT COULD BE YOU .. We have saved one speaking slot for someone who convinces us between now and March 11th that their story is too important - right now - not to be told alongside these .. and that it's a story they can tell well in just seven minutes. Make your pitch @NIPIM1.

NIPIM is a FREE event that you can just turn up to but if you want to guarantee a seat (and it helps us to have an idea how many seats we need) please hop over to Eventbrite.

The venue is booked all morning so if you want to stay on for more networking or to chat with any of our speakers, be our guest. If you need a meeting room we have one available nearby, or wander over to Blend.

If you want to help promote NIPIM please share a link to this page or the oven-ready image below on your social media channels.

NIPIM is organised by the Creative Quarter. Refreshments will be provided by Stewarts of Trent Bridge whose coffee roastery is at Sneinton Market right next to Blend, their own very fine coffee shop. So thanks to them and also to Makermet for helping out with graphic design and Marcus Holdsworth for being pretty nifty with a camera (and available at the drop of a hat),

* Surface Gallery is over the road from the Motorpoint Arena and opposite the Fox & Grapes at Sneinton Market.

NIPIM 2020 is now centre-stage because MIPIM in Cannes has been postponed due to the coronavirus. We are talking with the City Council and Invest in Nottingham about how to make even more of NIPIM. Watch this space and twitter @NIPIM1 for more information.
