'Pebble' sustainable city guide series chooses Nottingham as pilot city

May 3rd 2018

Connecting the dots between makers, vegan cafes, green spaces and volunteering opportunities, the first in a free series of guides helps residents and visitors explore what's ethical and eco-friendly in Nottingham.

There’s a new guide in town - the pebble guide city series - an intuitive, free-to-use web-app, designed and built for pebble by Nottingham creative agency, Makermet. Each pebble guide pulls together ethical cafes, restaurants, bars and eco-hotels, plus urban farms, farmers’ markets, street food, bike paths and green spaces as well as makers and crafters you can visit - and answers the most basic of Google queries - ‘What is there to do in ____?’

While a city guide is nothing new, what the pebble guide series is doing is connecting the dots between micro-breweries and makers, vegan cafes and volunteering opportunities and so on - to give residents and visitors a modern, mobile way to experience everything good in each city and meet people who care about the same things.

11 categories make it easy to find the best spots in each city and highlight what’s ethical, eco and sustainable. You can also narrow your search by choosing the things you need for your visit - free Wi-fi?  Dog friendly? Secure bike parking?...use the simple and handy filters to plan your day.

Plus there’s bespoke itineraries for each city - either seasonal and topical ideas for half day adventures (Rainy Day cake tour anyone?) or sponsored itineraries from suitable events and brands.

If your business or organisation is flying the flag for sustainability, ethical fashion, green-living or social enterprise in the city, pebble are welcoming submissions - a basic listing in the guide is free. They're especially on the look out for voluntary organisations that welcome flying visitors wishing to roll up their sleeves and pitch in for a day of community gardening or wildlife conservation. The pebble guide city series is part of pebble - an award-winning magazine and community that launched in November 2016. Fast becoming the digital hub for a sustainable lifestyle that’s stylish and achievable - from ethical fashion advice to long form interviews and aspirational slow travel features, pebble's founder Georgina Wilson-Powell commissioned Lace Market-based agency 'Makermet' for the development of the brand and website.

Essentially working as the pebble creative team, Makermet supported the project after launch with digital marketing, print design and website maintenance. The massive and successful collaborative effort between pebble and Makermet has blurred the line between client and agency, so much so that in April 2018, Makermet's director, Alex Traska, formally took up a secondary role as Creative Director of pebble.
